Whether it is back pain caused by poor posture, pain when you wake up in the morning and move your pillow, or sore feet from running, herbal pain plaster has become a panacea for people's aches and pains.

What is the first remedy you think of when you have a sore back? Almost half of the people who suffer from aches and pains will use herbal pain plaster to relieve their aches and pains. Do you know which of the four conditions herbal pain plasteris suitable for?

Condition 1 / Post-exercise soreness (lactic acid build-up)

When you push yourself to the limits of your physical abilities, participate in a long marathon or suddenly increase the intensity of your exercise beyond what your muscles can handle, your muscles will easily become fatigued and this will lead to soreness due to lactic acid build-up.

The most important thing to do to relieve this type of soreness is to get some rest and apply a hot compress to the sore area to improve blood circulation and get rid of the lactic acid. If you don't have a hot compress handy, you can also use a herbal pain plaster with a local muscle massage to stimulate microvascular dilation and increase blood circulation to relieve soreness.

Condition 2 / Tennis elbow, mother's hand (inflammation of tendons)

Tennis elbow and mum's hand are not just for tennis players or housewives. If you use your wrist and elbow repetitively and for long periods of time, such as lifting heavy objects, sweeping, mopping, stir-frying, typing, playing piano, etc., you may suffer from this condition.

Tennis elbow or mama's hand can occur if you are in the wrong position to exert force, causing pain in the lateral extensor muscles of the elbow or in the tendon sheath of the thumb tendon on the side of the wrist.

If the pain is mild, a herbal pain plaster can be used to relieve the inflammation. However, if the pain persists after 1 to 2 days of rest, you should seek medical advice as soon as possible.

Condition 3 / Pillow fall (strained neck muscles)

Many people often wake up with a pain in their shoulders and neck, which can be unbearable. Usually, the main causes of a drop pillow are a strain or spasm of the neck muscles or acute inflammation of the small joints of the cervical spine.

If the pain is caused by an acute contracture of the shoulder and neck muscles due to a wrong sleeping posture, a warm towel or herbal pain plaster can be applied to the sore area at the moment and the pain will usually be relieved by the next day.

If the pain is not relieved on the second day, and the pain worsens, it is important to seek medical advice to see if the pain is caused by another cervical condition.

Condition 4 / Acute sprain

I believe we have all had the experience of twisting our feet in high heels or playing football, and the pain is excruciating. When this type of acute sprain occurs, remember to treat the sprain with the PRICE principles, which are Protection, Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation.

P = Protection: When an injury occurs, the first step is to protect the injured area and immobilise it.

R = Rest: Stop moving the injured area after the injury.

I = Ice: Ice constricts the blood vessels and helps to control swelling, pain and spasm at the site of the injury.

C = Compression: Compress the injured area with an elastic bandage and apply moderate pressure to reduce internal bleeding and leakage of tissue fluid.

E = Elevation: Elevating the injured area above the heart will help the return of tissue fluid to the injured area and prevent excessive swelling (this can be done in conjunction with ice and compression).

In addition to the PRICE principle, herbal pain plaster, which has anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties, can also be applied to the injury, as well as Kangdi's Menthol pain relief patch, which has elastic properties to improve blood circulation in the subcutaneous tissues, reduce oedema and speed up tissue repair.
